AFRO-HERITAGE BROADCASTING AND ENTERTAINMENT AWARD NOMINEE, LEGEND AWARD CATEGORY, PETE EDOCHIE

Nollywood legendary actor, Pete Edochie popularly known as “The Lion of Africa”, was born on the 7th of March, 1947, in Enugu state, Nigeria.

He is from the Igbo ethnicity in from the South Eastern part of Nigeria. Pete Edochie, is very influential and proud about his culture, though very humble as well.

No wonder, he is so accomplished, in the movie industry and considered, one of Africa’s most talented actors, by several leading award organizers on the Continent.

Though, Pete Edochie is also a very seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he came into prominence in the 1980’s when he played the lead role of ” Okonkwo” in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all time best selling novel, “Things Fall Apart”.

A look into his background, by Naija Online TV, revealed a lot so many today may not know about the Catholic Christian.


Pete Edochie started with radio broadcasting in 1967 at the age of 20, as a junior programmes assistant, after which he was elevated to the level of a Director, over time.

He was director of programmes, but doubling sometimes as the Deputy Managing Director and occasionally acts as the Managing Director.

He later quit ABS at the time, because the government decided to play politics with the affairs of their FM station, thereby resulting in the entire management being asked to move out, including him.

Pete Edochie, was to be the immediate successor to the MD, but had to leave and enrol into the movie industry.

Prior to that, he had feature in the very successful television adaption of renowned writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe’s ” Things Fall Apart”, which won him an international award. Which made BBC visit Nigeria to interview the movie legend for his role in the movie, “Things Fall Apart”.

Pete Edochie, is to receive the legend category award, at the forthcoming 2016 Afro-Heritage Broadcasting and Entertainment Awards, set to hold on the 20th of August in Houston, Texas, U.S.A as organized by famous US based entertainment and event promoter, Sola Olaniyan.
