SOMETIMES IN APRIL, BROUGHT ME TO LIMELIGHT - ORIS ERHUERO

Oris Erhuero, has been in the creative industry for about 2 and half decade, doing what he loves to do best.

Part of his efforts, is taking part in series of movies, TV shows and many more and to him, its about quality and not quantity.

However, in his recent interview with NaijaOnlineTV, Erhuero, informed about his recent movie, which is still at the production stage, titled “Redcon1“.

He cites his role in the movie, as the most challenging he has ever played, as he acted, the role of a captain, who leads an elite force to a suicide mission.

In his words he states, ” its the most difficult role i have encountered till date, as I had to train hard for almost 2 month with the special forces and learn.

These are guys, who have been in and out of Iraq, Afghanistan, you name it and have lost a lot of men to war, they have seen death many times over and had even taken lives themselves, without thinking twice.

This is talking about a world, where men have the license to kill and take a life, within a split second, so I have had to go to some very dark places myself and still in that place at the moment, till filming wraps up for me”.

Oris Erhuero, recollects a major moment in the early beginning of his career, acting in the TV hit series, “The Adventures of Sinbad “.

A television series, shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa.

He was one of the lead actors in the world wide hit TV series, which was produced during the reign of former South African President, late Nelson Mandela, whom Erhuero had the opportunity of meeting on a one on one before his (Mandela) demise.

He calls, the television series a school for everything which includes TV and cinema for him. SOMETIMES IN APRIL, BROUGHT ME TO LIMELIGHT - ORIS ERHUERO

As the series, was a 22 episode a year, for a couple of years, with endless directors and producers in and out, who he says have now moved on to films.

The Adventures of Sinbad, was a television series produced exactly 20 years ago.

Aside that, Oris Erhuero, analysed another major movie, which was a big jump for him, called ” Highlander 4 “, he says, its been one incredible leap after the other for him since then.

However, according to the star Hollywood actor, the movie “Sometimes in April”, brought him to limelight.

Oris Erhuero, acted in the movie alongside Idris Elba, Carole Karemera, Debra Winger and many others.

The movie, was about the Rwandan genocide of 1994, written and directed by the Haitian film maker, Raoul Peck, while it was produced by Daniel Delume.

The movie was released, in February 17, 2005, as it was shot at locations in Rwanda, France and the United States, languages spoken, were English and Kinyarwanda, an official language, spoken in Rwanda.

Sometimes in April, centers on two brothers, Honore Butera (Oris Erhuero) working for Radio Television Libre des Miller Collines and Augustin Muganza (Idris Elba), a captain in the Rwandan army (married to a Tutsi woman, with whom he had 2 sons, Yves-Andre and Marcus), who bear witness to the killing of close to over a million people in 100 days, while becoming divided, by politics and loosing some of their own family.

In contrast to Hotel Rwanda, which was rated PG-13 and had most of the genocide violence subtly implied rather than explicitly shown, the film was noted for its more gruesome and graphical portray of the violence, which gave it a TV-MA rating.

Erhuero, counts the movie’s director as one of the finest on earth.

As the director, Raoul Peck, was mentioned to have said to Oris Erhuero and Idris Elba, “when you are done with this movie, you guys will never have to beg anyone for work, or prove that you can get the work done, or carry a film.

Just make sure, you guys pick your offers wisely and those that don’t hire you guys, for some reason or whatever, will regret their action, so keep going, no matter what”.

Erhuero informed that even till today, after many years the movie had been released, everyone including young film makers, University students and even political officials in UN, always stop him to give their commendations based on his role in the historic movie.

His educational background revealed, he majored in government and politics, film studies and fine arts, however, his father wanted him to be a lawyer.

Oris Erhuero, recently starred with the Nollywood Diva, Genevieve Nnaji in her self produced and directed by Ishaya Bako movie, “Road To Yesterday” and he had this to say about the screen goddess.

As the movie, also witnessed over 75 million viewers, watch its premiere in USA and Europe, recently.

Its a fact as the numbers and population alone says so, hence why I am part of it. But I have to give thanks, to the likes of Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Kate Henshaw and others, from the very beginning of Nollywood, who fought hard to bring it, this far.

Oris Erhuero also recently starred in a British film, which was shot entirely on location, in Ghana, titled ” The Cursed Ones “.

The movie as directed by Nana Obiri Yeboah is a 2016 British film, produced by Nicholas K. Long, written by Maximilian Claussen.

It was also nominated for 13 AMAA awards in total amongst others, making it the most nominated film of 2016.

According to him, if he had not been an actor, he would have probably been a soldier, but today he is so excited about being who he is, thanking his mother, who gave him a slap, back then at the age of 16, when he decided to join the military.

His favourite Nigerian celebrity, is Genevieve Nnaji, who he says, gave him an outstanding opportunity, to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians across the world.

Seeing the American president, Barack Hussein Obama as his favourite foreign celebrity, Oris Erhuero, loves to relax, with a glass of wine and good people around him.

So far, Nigeria is his favourite vacation spot, as he can walk the street and nobody bothers him.
