VISITING NIGERIA, MY FIRST TO SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA - MARK ZUCKERBERG

The Founder and CEO of the world’s biggest social media platform (Facebook), Mark Zukerberg, visited Lagos, Nigeria, on the 30th of August, 2016.

Just after his visit to Rome, in Italy, where he had also visited the Colosseum.

The 7th richest personality in the world paid a surprise visit to the West African nation, Nigeria and called the trip, his first to Sub-Saharan Africa.

While in Lagos, Nigeria, Mark Zukerberg will be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs as well. While hoping to learn about the start up ecosystem in Nigeria.

He says, “the energy here is amazing and i’m excited to learn as much as i can”.

On his arrival to Lagos, the young billionaire made a surprise visit to Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB), in Yaba, Lagos.

Where he had the opportunity to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and also entrepreneurs, who associate with CcHUB, to build and launch their apps.

Few moments after, Mark Zukerberg, met a young Nigerian female, by the name Rosemary Njoku, at the Facebook Express Wi-Fi stand, which she runs.

According to Zukerberg, Express Wi-Fi empowers entrepreneurs, to build a business, by providing their community with access to the internet.

He states that, Facebook designed the technology, while local internet providers add the connectivity. He says, Express Wi-Fi is part of his team’s internet.org initiative.

Rosemary Njoku, who already had a business before she started selling Express Wi-Fi as well, told Zukerberg during their chat, that she now has over 3,000 customers and makes much more money from Express Wi-Fi.

Facebook owner, Mark Zukerberg in his words, called Rosemary Njoku a great example of how local entrepreneurs spread internet access around the world.

Zukerberg concludes by saying, his team within this week will launch a satellite into space, to enable more entrepreneurs across Africa to sell Express Wi-Fi and for more people to have access to reliable internet.

Which will mean more connectivity and more opportunity for entrepreneurs just like Rosemary Njoku everywhere.
