Afro Nation music festival postponed to 2021
Afro Nation 2020 has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was set to be held on 17th, 18th and 19th July 2020 in Portugal, but will now take place on 1st, 2nd and 3rd July 2021. Organisers have explained that tickets bought for this year’s event will be valid for next year. Afro Nation has caused upset among fans as tickets can not be refunded, however tickets can listed for resale.
A statement posted on the Afro Nation Twitter account read: ‘Afro Nation has been closely monitoring this situation and working in tandem with partners, local authorities and the Portuguese government. The safety of our fans, artists, staff and the local community remain paramount.
‘In light of the recent Portuguese Government directive regarding large gatherings, Afro Nation Portugal will be postponed to July 1st-3rd 2021 and all tickets will remain valid. Afro Nation will now take place in July 2021.
‘On a more positive note we have been working hard behind the scenes for every eventuality.
‘We have expanded our line-up, and can now confirm the biggest Afrobeats line-up of all time for Afro Nation Portugal 2021.
‘As an independent festival we are committed to putting on the biggest and best Afrobeats events to take place anywhere in the world for you.’
Festicket, an official outlet for Afro Nation tickets, has stated on its website that refunds will not be issued in line with ’emergency laws’ laid out by the Portuguese government. The site reads that ‘these laws and measures have been put in place in the interest of protecting the many thousands of people who rely on live events’.
It goes on: ‘Following this advice, Afro Nation will be postponed to the new date of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd July 2021 and to this end, and in line with Afro Nation’s ticketing T&C’s we will not be issuing refunds.’
Additionally the terms and conditions on Ticket Arena, another official outlet of Afro Nation tickets, states on its website that if an event is rescheduled ‘you will be entitled to attend the new date or you will be offered a refund for the full face value’ but ‘booking and delivery fees are non refundable’.
However on their FAQ page about Afro Nation, it reads the same message as Festicket about Portuguese laws.
The line-up teased for next year on the Afro Nation website includes WizKid, Skepta, Burna Boy, Davido, Yemi Alade and Beenie Man.
