Kunle Afolayan, was born on the 30th of September, 1974, in Ebute Metta, Lagos state, Nigeria, from the Yoruba ethnic group of the south west region of Nigeria.

He is an actor, producer, director and a film maker, who is a free thinker by religion.

Born into a theater family, which was paved by his late father, Pa Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan, popularly known as “Ade Love” Kunle Afolayan, also has siblings who are into the movie industry, which are Gabriel Afolayan, Aremu Afolayan and Moji Afolayan, who is also married to an actor and film maker, Rasaq Olayiwola, popularly known in movies as “Ojopagogo”.

Kunle Afolayan, is of the Igbomina-Yoruba descent from Kwara state.

He majored in economics and started out working in a bank, while doing some casual acting, before deciding to move into full time film making, as he also took a course at the New York Film Academy to hone his skills.

Kunle Afolayan had been visibly active in the Nigerian film industry, since 2005 after his first movie role in 1999, by Tunde Kelani of Mainframe Productions in ” Shaworoide “.

Kunle Afolayan has made several extremely popular movies, like “The Figurine, Araromire”, which was in Yoruba and English language, “Phone Swap” is also one of his movies, which featured Nollywood stars like, Wale Ojo, Joke Silva, Nse Ikpe Etim and the legendary Chika Okpala.

His movie “The Figurine”, won 5 major awards at the African Film Academy Awards and experienced tremendous success in the Nigerian movie theaters.

Kunle Afolayan, appeared at the subversive film festival in 2011, where he had represented the second largest film industry in the world, the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood), with one of the finest film makers in Nigeria, Zeb Ejiro.

In May 2013, Kunle Afolayan’s film, ” Phone Swap “, premiered in France at the first edition of Nollywood week Paris and won the “Public Choice Award”.

Kunle Afolayan is married to his wife, Tolu Afolayan with 3 children.

The Nigerian movie icon, Kunle Afolayan, is set to be honoured with an Icon Award at the forthcoming Afro-Heritage Broadcasting and Entertainment Awards, set to hold in Houston, Texas, on the 20th of August, 2016.
