Arsene Wenger tips Arsenal to challenge City, Liverpool for Premier League title
Arsene Wenger is backing Arsenal to challenge the Premier League’s top two clubs – Arsenal have dropped five points in four matches despite signing Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and David Luiz – Chelsea have won just once since Frank Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Arsene Wenger is drumming support for Arsenal to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title this season. According to Metro report citing beIN Sports, the former Gunners manager believes Chelsea and Man United lack the potential, to battle the top two teams.
The Frenchman also hammered that Chelsea’s greatest problem in the course of 2019-20 campaign will be lack of experience.
At the last count, Arsenal continued their rebuilding process during the summer, bringing in quality players like Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and David Luiz to boost the quality in the squad.
However, they have lost five points from a possible 12 after four games, courtesy of their defeat at Anfield and a 2-2 draw with Tottenham in north London derby before the international break. On the other hand, Chelsea have only one win since Lampard took over the dugout from Maurizio Sarri in the summer, surrendering a two-goal lead against new boys Sheffield United last weekend. Lampard is backing Chelsea youngsters; Tammy Abraham, and Mason Mount to deliver the goals, with the pair among the goals in the Blues last two matches.
The England legend approved David Luiz switch to rivals Arsenal before the end of the summer transfer window and Wenger insists the absence of a leader in the heart of Chelsea’s defence may not argue well for the west London side.
“Maybe the team who has the potential is Arsenal who could be the closest,” Wenger was quoted as saying to beIN Sports.
