Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers can revive Kelechi Iheanacho’s career, says Efe Ambrose

Category:Check_Republic

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers could present Kelechi Iheanacho with the opportunity to resuscitate his career, according to Nigeria international Efe Ambrose.

Iheanacho has endured a rocky time at the Foxes since his move from Manchester City in 2017, and last season he managed just nine starts, scoring one goal.
Ultimately, his loss of form cost him a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, starting in Egypt on Friday.

According to Ambrose, the young Nigeria international – who was named Caf Most Promising Talent of the Year twice – needs to remain at the King Power Stadium where manager Rodgers could revive his declining career.

“I know Brendan Rodgers very well and he is a manager that can develop Iheanacho into one of the best strikers in the world,” Ambrose told Goal.

“However, the most important thing if for him to keep working hard. Once he can show Rodgers commitment, zeal, determination and passion to excel, he will not be looked down upon at Leicester City.

‘Hard luck for the Falcons’ – Nigerians slam VAR decisions in France defeat

Category:Check_Republic

The Super Falcons were "robbed" by VAR in their last group game of the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup against France, according to Nigerian fans.

Nigeria went into the encounter in dire need of a positive result, but Wendie Renard’s 79th minute penalty condemned Thomas Dennerby’s ladies to their second defeat of the championship.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw before VAR awarded a penalty kick to the hosts after Ngozi Ebere was penalised for fouling Viviane Asseyi in Nigeria’s penalty area.

The initial kick by Renard hit the outside of the post and went wide. However, VAR ordered a replay after goalkeeper Nnadozie moved off her line before the kick. The Olympique Lyon star made no mistakes in converting the retake as Les Bleues made it three wins in three games.

It was a decision that has split opinion, with many feeling the African champions were hard done by the Video Assistant Referee.

Fury: “Deontay Wilder is coming, this fight is happening

Category:Check_Republic

Tyson Fury set his sights on a lucrative rematch with Deontay Wilder after excelling in his first fight in Las Vegas to stop Tom Schwarz in only two rounds.

The 30-year-old furthered his reputation as the world’s finest heavyweight at the MGM Grand by repeatedly hurting his German opponent from the opening bell, dropping him in the second round before forcing his corner to throw in the towel after two minutes and fifty seconds.

For all of his natural talent Fury has rarely been a destructive fighter, but at a time when he has the attention of a wider audience in the US and when his rewarding contract with ESPN commits him to fighting there he proved almost as entertaining as in December’s draw with Wilder.

Manchester United ‘determined to get £80m for Romelu Lukaku’

Category:Check_Republic

Manchester United will reportedly only grant Romelu Lukaku a move to Serie A if they receive an offer of £80m.

The Belgian striker’s future at Old Trafford has been called into question after slipping behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lukaku reiterated earlier this month that he would like to play in the Italian top flight, with Juventus and Inter Milan believed to be interested.

According to the Daily Mail, however, the 26-year-old will not be allowed to leave Old Trafford unless United make a profit on the £75m they spent to sign him from Everton two years ago.

Across 77 starts for United in all competitions, Lukaku has found the back of the net 42 times.

‘No time to complain’ – Messi says Argentina must look forward after shock Copa America loss

Category:Check_Republic

Lionel Messi has said there is no time for Argentina to complain after their shock 2-0 loss to Colombia to open their Copa America campaign.

After a dour first half Argentina went down after the break to two well taken goals by Colombia.

Roger Martinez opened the scoring with an unstoppable drive in the 72nd minute before substitute Duvan Zapata finished off a good team move with four minutes of the game remaining.
Despite the reverse the Barcelona star believes there is time for his country to turn it around.

“There are positives to come out of this, we are ready to accept the challenge that we have,” Messi said after the game.

“There is no time to complain, we have to look ahead, we have to raise our heads and continue, there’s still a lot of the tournament left.

“They kept the ball well but didn’t create clear opportunities, but when we took a step forwards in the second half they scored a goal.

“When we were playing at our best, they scored a great goal and it cost us.”

Messi said that his team will learn from the defeat, their first in regular time in the competition since going down do Brazil in 2007.

Pogba insistent on joining Real Madrid, midfielder refuses to force Old Trafford exit

Category:Check_Republic

Paul Pogba wants out of Manchester United to join Real Madrid, but he is not yet willing to force his way out of Old Trafford, according to Marca.

The midfielder believes Zinedine Zidane wants him as much as he wants to join the Madrid boss, and hopes the situation can be resolved diplomatically.

United refuse to sell, but with Pogba having two years left on his contract, they may be forced into a sale in order to recoup the largest possible fee.
