My Hope Is In God And Lagosians – Agbaje

Category:Check_Republic

The Peoples’ Democratic Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has again restated his hope and trust in the Almighty God as the driving force behind his politics and mission to govern Lagos State.

He also described his acceptance among the good people of Lagos as another motivating factor, despite the prevailing godfather politics that remains a major problem in the state.

The PDP candidate who has consistently spoken out against the problem of godfatherism, especially in Lagos State where it is now a deep-rooted issue, called on youths and everybody of voting age to vote out candidates of godfathers because they are only interested in feathering the nest of their benefactors.

He therefore called on young people to lead the way and become the light and that face against godfathers and their cohorts.

In his closing remarks, Agbaje urged Lagosians to work and pray fervently for a greater Lagos State which can only be possible with their collective efforts to vote him into office.

Category:Check_Republic

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said on Thursday in Lagos that the party would send the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, into retirement on Saturday for the good of Nigeria.

He said: “This election is more than a contest between two men, President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, for that one exalted chair.

“Look, I have made no attempts to hide my friendship with Atiku. We are friends before this election and hopefully we will be friends after Feb. 16 when he goes into retirement.

“For the good of Nigeria and even the good of Atiku himself, we will do well to send him into retirement on Saturday. Perhaps, we should also send Obi into retirement along with his boss come Feb. 16."

Veteran Yoruba Comedian, Baba Suwe, Is Dying

Category:Check_Republic

"MR. LATIN, JIDE KOSOKO, OGA BELLO, DELE ODULE, OTHERS HAVE ABANDONED HIM," …SAY INSIDERS
***

Inside sources told The Status that since his celebrated arrest and humiliation for alleged drug smuggling by the NDLEA, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe, has never remained his lively self.

He went down physically, financially and professionally, no thanks to his colleagues and close allies in the theatre business who have shown lack of interest in his case since 2016 when he literally disappeared from the social radar.

A younger artiste, Yomi Fabiyi, it was who brought Baba Suwe’s case to the public knowledge three years ago. Whilst he appealed to the public and colleagues to help him back on his health, Fabiyi added that the veteran comic star was down financially too and needed funds to return to life, literally.

Once the toast of most Nigerian families for his creative humour on TVs and later home videos, Baba Suwe, weighed down by the psychological trauma borne out of the public opprobrium experienced in the wake of his time with NDLEA, soon fell ill after his arrest and has yet to recover.

Baba Suwe’s actress wife and confidant, Omoladun, died in 2009. Those in the know say that that was the real genesis of Baba Suwe’s fast descent into social and professional worthlessness.

A Lagos based seasoned radio broadcaster (who pleaded anonymity) during the investigation, informed The Status that no one among Baba Suwe’s friends and professional colleagues was willing to help solve his challenge.

Prodded to expatiate, the radio man who claimed he had personally called out such big names like Oga Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Mr. Latin and others on the comedian’s present sorry state, stated that he felt they were running away from Baba Suwe not because he was not good to them but because they are selfish in nature.

"Baba Suwe is a good man. None of his people can say he is bad. And they are not helping him not because he behaved badly to them. They are not helping him because they care only about their family. That’s the nature of our actors, there is no exception. Imagine the caliber of people I told I had spoken to about Baba Suwe’s case, yet none looks his way yet.

But if, God forbid, he dies from the problem, they would be all over the place eulogising his qualities which they helped killed by their lack of empathy," the broadcaster notes.

Attempts by The Status to speak with any of the names mentioned were futile as their phones were either unavailable or went unanswered. The current location of Baba Suwe was also not known as he was said to have been moved from his once bustling Ebute Metta, Lagos office.

Politicians sends family members abroad as election approaches

Category:Check_Republic

There has been an increase in international flight bookings for families of many prominent Nigerians and politicians as well as expatriates, investigations have shown.

An airline source told our correspondent that the increase might not be unconnected with the forthcoming elections.

It was gathered that between January and the first week in February, many prominent families had bought tickets to travel out of the country.

A source said top destinations included Dubai ( United Arab Emirates), Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.

“Many prominent families have been buying tickets to travel out since the beginning of the year,” one of the sources said.

A travel agent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was normal for politicians to move their families out of the country during elections.

“Once it is election time, most politicians send their families out of the country or they just move to places where they cannot be reached easily,” the source stated.

He, however, added that the fact that they (politicians) were buying international flight tickets did not mean they would eventually travel out of the country.

According to him, such families sometimes buy the tickets but stay in secluded places within the country until elections are over.

“They can afford to buy tickets and not use them, which happens often,” the source added.

According to the Director of Research, Zenith Travels, Olumide Ohunayo, “There is a huge divide between the supporters of the two major presidential candidates, making it look more like a war situation. So, it is not surprising that some people are leaving the country.”

Ohunayo said that apart from some politicians and elite, expatriates and companies that had technical partners had also seen many of their staff members going on vacation abroad, pending the outcome of the elections.

He said, “Even some indigenous firms are waiting for the outcome of the elections. I think supporters and team members of the major political parties are the major problems.

“This has affected travel. We just hope the elections come and go so we can live normal lives and everyone can move on with their lives.”

The Chief Executive Officer, Aglow Limited, an aviation support services company, Mr Tayo Ojuri, said it had been a trend.

He said some of the movements were based on security reports from embassies and companies that evaluated and controlled risks.
