Manchester United ‘determined to get £80m for Romelu Lukaku’

Category:Check_Republic

Manchester United will reportedly only grant Romelu Lukaku a move to Serie A if they receive an offer of £80m.

The Belgian striker’s future at Old Trafford has been called into question after slipping behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lukaku reiterated earlier this month that he would like to play in the Italian top flight, with Juventus and Inter Milan believed to be interested.

According to the Daily Mail, however, the 26-year-old will not be allowed to leave Old Trafford unless United make a profit on the £75m they spent to sign him from Everton two years ago.

Across 77 starts for United in all competitions, Lukaku has found the back of the net 42 times.

‘No time to complain’ – Messi says Argentina must look forward after shock Copa America loss

Category:Check_Republic

Lionel Messi has said there is no time for Argentina to complain after their shock 2-0 loss to Colombia to open their Copa America campaign.

After a dour first half Argentina went down after the break to two well taken goals by Colombia.

Roger Martinez opened the scoring with an unstoppable drive in the 72nd minute before substitute Duvan Zapata finished off a good team move with four minutes of the game remaining.
Despite the reverse the Barcelona star believes there is time for his country to turn it around.

“There are positives to come out of this, we are ready to accept the challenge that we have,” Messi said after the game.

“There is no time to complain, we have to look ahead, we have to raise our heads and continue, there’s still a lot of the tournament left.

“They kept the ball well but didn’t create clear opportunities, but when we took a step forwards in the second half they scored a goal.

“When we were playing at our best, they scored a great goal and it cost us.”

Messi said that his team will learn from the defeat, their first in regular time in the competition since going down do Brazil in 2007.

Pogba insistent on joining Real Madrid, midfielder refuses to force Old Trafford exit

Category:Check_Republic

Paul Pogba wants out of Manchester United to join Real Madrid, but he is not yet willing to force his way out of Old Trafford, according to Marca.

The midfielder believes Zinedine Zidane wants him as much as he wants to join the Madrid boss, and hopes the situation can be resolved diplomatically.

United refuse to sell, but with Pogba having two years left on his contract, they may be forced into a sale in order to recoup the largest possible fee.

Cool Coutinho helps lacklustre Brazil forget Neymar woes in debut Copa win

Category:Check_Republic

It was not pretty, nor particularly convincing at times, but Brazil will take it – and so will Philippe Coutinho. With a little help from the struggling Barcelona star and a welcome hand from VAR, the Copa America hosts overcame the loss of Neymar and sealed a 3-0 victory over Bolivia that on another day could have finished with a result far less favourable to the South American giants.

The Selecao caused the first stir of the Copa America as they walked out decked in white, a nod to their original colours that were all but jettisoned in the wake of the 1950 World Cup ‘Maracanazo’ at the hands of Uruguay in favour of the now more familiar yellow.

By the time the whistle blew for the end of the first half, though, the overall mood was rather grey. Bolivia have proved tricky opening game opposition for more than a few nations in the Copa and so they proved again, ceding control of the ball and inviting their illustrious rivals to try and break them down.

Suarez ‘wanted to disappear from the world’ after Barcelona’s Champions League exit

Category:Check_Republic

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has confessed that the days after his club’s shock defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final were among the worst of his career.

Suarez, who moved to Catalonia from Anfield in 2014, opened the scoring for his current employers in a 3-0 first-leg victory at Camp Nou.

In the return leg Liverpool overcame that deficit with a 4-0 victory that shocked the Primera Division champions.

No Copa, no GOAT? Messi has no chance of matching Maradona with this Argentina

Category:Check_Republic

Lionel Messi may have won every trophy possible with his club, but failure to gain a major title at international level still haunts the Barcelona talisman.

Barring a minor miracle, however, he will not be breaking that drought at the head of Argentina’s 2019 Copa America squad. To put it bluntly, this is possibly the weakest and most disorganised national team he has been a part of to date.

The debate over whether Messi deserves the tag of Greatest of All Time, tiresome as it is, continues to rumble. If it were to be judged on pure footballing achievements the little Argentine wizard would perhaps have no peers, having performed feats on the pitch which have never been seen before and doing so consistently now for the best part of 15 years.

‘Modric said find another number!’ – Hazard won’t fight for No. 10 shirt at Real Madrid

Category:Check_Republic

Eden Hazard says he is not worried about shirt number or penalty kick responsibilities at Real Madrid, but rather fitting in with his new team-mates now that he’s finally with the club.

The Belgian completed a €100 million (£88m/$112m) move from Chelsea last week, putting an end to months of speculation leading him to the club.

Hazard is one of several incoming signings made by the club this summer, including striker Luka Jovic and defenders Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy.

John Obi Mikel on his “last Afcon” and not having time for football in future

Category:Check_Republic

Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has hinted that the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) could be his last continental outing with the country.

Mikel has been a regular fixture in the national team frame since he made his Super Eagles debut back in August 2005 during a friendly match against Libya.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been named in Gernot Rohr’s final 23-man squad for the tournament in Egypt and he is now set to play in his fourth Afcon after previous appearances in the 2006, 2008 and 2013 editions.
