THE MOST CHALLENGING ROLE, I PLAYED IN A MOVIE, WAS OF A HARLOT – GRACE AMA
Grace Ama, is the daughter of Chief and Lolo Ogbonnaya Ama of Ebunwana community of Edda, Afikpo south local government area, of Ebonyi state.
She is an an actor, Ambassador of Ebonyi state, Ambassador of Nigeria Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and a multiple award winning, Nollywood actress. She is also a mother and a promoter of the well being of the less privileged in the society.
Grace Ama, as an actress, had being in Nollywood, for close to 2 decade now and had featured in over 50 movies, cutting across, English, Igbo and Yoruba movies respectively.
In an interview with NaijaOnlineTV, Grace Ama revealed that her most challenging role in a movie, was playing a harlot, in the movie titled “The Pastor and the harlot”. And this was because of the connotation of a harlot in the society, coupled with the fact, that in playing such roles, you must make it real.
She is of the opinion, that there is the tendency for the public, to begin to see the person in such light after the movie.
Grace Ama, got to limelight, acting in her debut movie, titled ” Chains “, which was directed by prolific Nigerian movie director, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen.
Grace Ama, attended the University of Lagos, where she had obtained a bachelor’s degree in creative arts among other studies.
She revealed her favorite actors and actresses to be, Liz Benson, RMD, Stella Damascus, Genevieve Nnaji, Chioma Chukwuka Akpota among others.
Grace Ama, is presently working on several projects, which include her foundation for the less privileged, film making and many others, yet to be made public.
Though she had been off the screen for a while, Grace Ama informed, she fully back after the delivery of her son, featuring in a couple of movies, but she had been particularly more busy, putting up her own projects.
She thinks Nollywood, as a body need strong leadership, to define and determine its code of ethics for members.
Insinuating, that Nollywood need to work on unity and even those who direct and produce movies, ought to recognize the legends, who should lead the way, for the upcoming ones.
If Grace Ama, had not been an actress, she would probably have been a lawyer, as her parents wanted her to be either a legal practitioner or a medical doctor.
However, she believe the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) had made tremendous progress, over the years.
The challenge, she identifies with, is sustaining the progress through the unity of purpose by members.
Like every other celebrity, Grace Ama is of the opinion, that the main challenge of a celebrity is he or she doesn’t have a private life to live, which she says, is affecting her to, as she thinks the press is doing too much in covering celebrities’ details, whether it is a good news or bad one.
Even if it is either true or false.
Interestingly, her favorite movie, where she had acted is “Bafana Bafana”, which was about inter-tribal marriage and the unity of our nation, through family union.
