On Sunday, July 8, 2019, the members of Creative Industry Group (CIG) embarked on a wholly and absolutely peaceful protest match to the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
We the members of the group have noticed regrettably the deliberate distortion and lies being foisted on the public through false reports by some section of the media both online and conventional about the event.
The impretion created by the reports is that the members of CIG who turned out in their large numbers, went to the Redeemed Camp with the soul purpose of attacking, harassing and embarrassing the very revered General Overseer (GO) of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
This nothing further from being preposterous.
We make bold to state that the protest was intended to respectfully bring to the attention of the revered spiritual father, the state of huge insecurity that has bedeviled our country, Nigeria, openly typified in kidnaps, murder, herdsmen ferocious attacks on farmers and communities as well as rape and trafficking in human beings.
The convener of (CIG), renowned artiste, Mr. Felix Duke, in company of well respected and prominent colleagues such as Charles Oputa a.k.a. Charly Boy, Olympic Ambassador, Eedris Abdul-kareem, along with Baba Fryo, among many others embarked on the action with a view to appealing to the GO in his capacity as leader of one of the largest Christian groups in Africa to vocally condemn the negligence of our government towards securing the lives and property of Nigerians and by so doing, draw the president’s attention to the grave situation.
Let us place on record that the peaceful protesters did not meet the GO but were received and attended to by the National Overseer, RCCG, Pastor Joshua Obayemi, who not only lauded the initiative of the group to speak for the voiceless, but went further to pray for us.
At no time was there any display of violence by any participant in the protest nor was there a modicum of hostility from the the leadership of the RCCG.
We will not be deterred by any form of faulse representation of the genuine intentions of CIG, as the resolve is to seek, struggle, and pursue all lawful avenues that will better the lot of we, Nigerians.
