Pregnancy can bring out diabetes in women who are prone to diabetes. When this occurs, it is called Gestational Diabetes. It usually comes up from after 6 months into the pregnancy. Diabetes in pregnancy is dangerous for the mother and the unborn baby.

Pregnancy makes it more difficult to control the blood sugar levels. Control of what a pregnant woman with diabetes eats can help reduce the sugar level. If this does not help, it then becomes necessary to use medications such as Metformin or Insulin.

Diabetes in pregnancy can result in harm to the baby if the blood sugar is not well controlled. The baby could be too big and this may result in damage to the baby during delivery. It is important that pregnant women discuss the mode of delivery with their doctor. Diabetes in pregnancy can also result in the death of the baby before the baby is born. It is for these serious reasons that it is essential that women who develop diabetes in pregnancy are well managed by a team of doctors, midwives and dietitians.
In conclusion avoid eating sugary things and chocolates, eat healthy food and live a healthy life.
