Getafe 0-2 Barcelona: Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo goals seal away victory
Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo scored a goal in each half to hand Barcelona their first away win of the season as the champions beat Getafe 2-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday afternoon.
Suarez should have given Barca the lead when he went clean through after 16 minutes, but the Uruguayan hit his shot wide with only David Soria to beat.
But the former Liverpool striker, who was particularly disappointing in the 2-1 win over Villarreal on Tuesday, made amends as he gave the visitors the lead late in the half.
Marc-Andre ver Stegen came rushing out of his area to intercept a Getafe attack and the German goalkeeper spotted Suarez in space. He played a long ball over the top for the Uruguayan to run onto and the striker lobbed the onrushing Soria from outside the box to open the scoring four minutes before half-time.
And four minutes after the interval, Junior Firpo made it 2-0 with his first Barca goal, the left-back reacting quickly to fire though Soria’s legs after the goalkeeper had parried a long shot from Carles Perez.
Barca were pretty comfortable after that, but did have some defending to do late on as Clement Lenglet was sent off for a second bookable offense after 82 minutes.
The win sees Barcelona move provisionally up to second with seven games played, ahead of Real Madrid’s trip to Atletico later on Saturday.
Getafe, fifth in La Liga last season, are down in 11th.
