‘I gave up smoking weed to protect my mental health’- Stormzy
Rapper, Stormzy, 26, said he has ‘suffered with mental health problems for years’ and smoking marijuana only worsened his depression.
He said he’s ‘given up smoking weed’ in order to protect his mental health.
He made the revelation when speaking with South London charity Carney’s Community, which provides sport and activities to young disadvantaged people.
The Ghanian born singer shared: ‘If you’ve got mental health problems, stop smoking weed. It’s not good for your mental health.’
He went on: ‘I have suffered with mental health problems for the past few years. When I used to feel depressed, I would lock myself away and smoke weed and I would just get worse and worse and worse.
‘It does not help your situation. It will f*** you up. It feels good for, like, 20 minutes and then after that… we all know, us weed smokers, we know how it goes.’
Earlier this year, Stormzy claimed that ‘every government’ in the UK has let black people and working class people down.
The chart-topping grime star said that little had changed over the years, whether Labour or the Conservatives were in power.
He made the comments in an interview with GQ magazine, when he graced the cover of the March issue of the publication.
The rapper also took aim at Prime Minister Boris Johnson, saying it was clear that he is ‘not for him’ and other black people.
The rapper told GQ: ‘Every government has let black people down, let working-class people down.
‘Since when I’ve been young, whether it’s been a Labour government or a Tory government, not much has changed for the people who need it the most.’
On the PM, the rapper said he ‘is literally not for man. He has made it clear in his vocabulary and in the stances he takes’.
