Nigerian reggae star, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, has been diagnosed of cancer of the throat as he is currently battling for his life at the Queens Elizabeth Hospital, London.
According to his manager, Uzoma Omenka, who confirmed the report, said that during the period that the veteran reggae icon has been in the hospital, doctors were unable to ascertain exactly what the problem was after a series of tests that were carried out.
However, after about a week, reports now have it that Majek has finally been diagnosed with cancer of the throat which has spread to his lungs and rapidly spreading to other parts of his body.
“Majek currently is not able to speak and recognize anyone. He is currently bedridden, going through severe body pains. He needs an urgent miracle to find life again,” Omenka said.
Majek was rushed to London last month after a brief admission at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. The 66-year-old star was flown out of Nigeria after his condition became critical.
Omenka who said they currently require thousands of pounds to cater to the legendary musician’s feeding, transportation and other expenses, debunked rumours that he was dead.
“Majek is not dead; he is very sick and we are stranded and we need funds urgently,” Omenka began.
“We want his fans to pray for him; we have been to the Nigerian High Commission in the UK and they said they have no funds and it is not their duty, you can imagine. We even got a letter from Queen Elizabeth Hospital informing the high commission about Majek’s condition but it has amounted to nothing.”
Omenka added that since they arrived in London, he has expended so much on the singer’s upkeep, daily feeding, and transportation.
“Majek’s ailment is a culmination of so many things. Back in Nigeria, we went from hospital to hospital; St Nicholas even supported us at some point. I sold cars and properties to offset his hospital bills.
The airline didn’t even want to fly him to the UK because of his condition; we have spent over N10 million in Nigeria.”
