A ruthless Manchester City took out the anger of last weekend’s loss to Norwich City on a hapless Watford by hammering them eight nil with the rout initiated by David Silva after only 52 seconds.
The one-way rout was quickly followed by goals from Sergios Aguero, his 100 goals for City, a Riyad Mahrez deflected free kick, Nicholas Otamendi’s pile driver, a Bernardo Silva hat trick and a scorcher of a shot from Kevin De Bruyne.
The one-way show from Man City belied the fact that the Pep Guardiola tutored side were missing defenders Aymeric Laporte and John Stones due to injury with Brazil midfielder, Fernandinho stepping in at center back alongside Otamendi and they did not look like a makeshift pairing.
The match was over as a contest as early as the 18th minute when Man City romped to a 5-0 lead, nullifying any concerns regarding being weakened in central defence.
Watford under new manager Quique Flores who is on a second spell, did not offer anything going forward as all they did was to try and stem the rampaging City players all to no avail.
The 8-0 scoreline is the second highest in the EPL coming behind Manchester United’s pummeling of Ipswich Town 9-1 in the 1998/1999 season.
