Nigeria Governors converge at FCT, discuss relevant issues
Nigerian governors, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), have converged for a crucial meeting at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to The Nation, one of the top agendas to be discussed at the meeting borders on the deductions of the over N614 billion bail-out fund made available to the governors about two years ago. Recall that the federal government, through the minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed, had said it would commence deducting the fund from September 2019.
She said the funds will be deducted from states’ monthly allocations. It is not clear whether the federal government has started deducting the money as stated.
However, Legit.ng gathered that the state governors are asking that part of the funds be deducted from the money the federal government is owing them for federal projects they executed in their various states.
The governors are also begging the federal government for an extension of time before deducting the money from their monthly allocations. ThisDay newspaper reports that the governors are considering setting up a committee to mediate between them and the government over the modalities of the deductions.
Apart from the bailout funds deductions, the governors will also be discussing other issues which are of national importance.
