Setback for APC ahead of Governorship elections as a handful of members defect to PDP
Ahead of the governorship election in Bayelsa state, at least 6,000 supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Seriake Dickson, who received the defectors, urged the people of the state to reject the APC like they did in 2015. Receiving the defectors, Governor Seriake Dickson boasted that the APC will not win a single ward in the state on November 16, despite its reliance on federal might. The governor urged the APC to be ready to face defeat even in the face of intimidation and killing of thousands of Bayelsans.
He expressed optimism that, like in 2015, the people of the state would still reject the APC and its candidate in the election.
“We are presenting a ticket of stability, a ticket of development and not a ticket that will turn this state to a gathering of hooligans and criminals where people will be running away as they were doing before.
“That is why we are presenting this ticket and by the grace of God your next governor in 2020 will be Senator Douye Diri. “Just as we defeated them with their so-called federal support in 2015, we will defeat them with bigger margins in November,” he told the crowd.
