Team Nigeria: Be Good Ambassadors At African Games – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has charged Team Nigeria to the 12th African Games in Morocco to be good ambassadors of the country.
President Buhari gave the charge at a formal hand over of athletes by the federal Government to the Nigeria Olympic Committee which took place at the VIP lounge of the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja on Wednesday.
The President who was represented by the Secretary to the Federation , Mr Boss Mustapha urged the athletes to compete clean and win clean medals for the country.
“I want to charge athletes and team officials going to the Games to be worthy ambassadors of our great country, both on the field of play and outside the arena.
“The eyes of the global community are on you and as such you should desist from acts that could dent the image of our great country, Nigeria. I therefore urge you to keep the integrity of our nation intact by competing clean and fair at the Africa Games.”
The President also promised the team that hard work will be rewarded accordingly.
“We expect our athletes to do well in Morocco and bring back laurels. We will support them with what they require to do well in Morocco. Let me equally assure you that the federal government is fully committed to the successful participation in the African Games and will ensure that the welfare of the team is adequately taken care of.”
President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr Habu Ahmed Gumel also congratulated the National Federations taking part in the Games. No Fewer than 562 athletes and officials will be representing Nigeria at the Games scheduled to begin August 19 to August 31.
