Tell the Minister, to find more productive, ways to help – Kwame

Nigerian TV and Showbiz mogul Femi Aderibigbe lends his thoughts and expresses his opinion on the widely circulating issue of MNET/Multichoice’ Big Brother Nigeria being shot in S.A.

If you have been following, you will note that The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed released a statement of FG’s directive for NBC to investigate the issue.

Kwame writes –

“… I’m really disappointed in a lot of people as regards this whole issue. So it has come to this? So our entire broadcast and media industry that had a headache start over every other country in Africa, has been reduced to the production of one show, on a Multi channel broadcast platform that pays it’s taxes and other committments to government and other regulatory bodies?

When did government start regulating board decisions for private companies? That’s how we attract foreign investors?

I wonder why everyone is more concerned about where a show is produced, than government and financial institutions putting in place the factors that will ensure Nigerian companies can compete in broadcast, production and media generally.

We all grew up on NTA, now our kids are being trained remotely from Johannesburg, Beijing, California, Silicon Valley, London etc and we are powerless against the invasion and all the government sees to respond to is where big brother is produced from?

Our culture and traditions are being eroded, our societal values are being replaced and our self esteem is at an all time low and Multichoice is your problem?

NTA is masturbating on government subvention since 1900 and selling airtime instead of commissioning culturally relevant but entertaining content and building a whole new generation of producers and production houses and BBN is your problem?… ”

Someone then mentioned “Capital flight”
“. .. What nonsense capital flight? Tinsel, Hush, The Johnsons, Do Good, Hotel Majestic, Hustle, Flatmates, hundreds of new direction movies, AMVCA, I have lost count, totalling tens of billions of Naira in investments, all shot in Nigeria and all handled by entirely Nigerian cast and crew.

BBN I’m sure doesn’t have a budget of 3m dollars, that’s what will bring the Naira back to one dollar abi?

What is NTA doing to commission shows, what is government doing to ensure we can access funds at between 5 and 9 percent for broadcast and production equipment and infrastructure?

Who protects us from huge kickbacks and other shenanigans that keep us perpetually in slave mode? Tell the minister to find more productive way to help…….”
