Traffic light violators to pay N50, 000 fine in 2020

The FRSC says traffic light violations by motorists will attract a fine of N50,000. Oyeyemi said he has promised the increment from 4,000 to 50, 000 as a deterrent. Going further, the FRSC boss traffic light violation is worrisome Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the corps marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that traffic light violations by motorists will attract a fine of N50,000.

According to him, this will begin from next year. Going further, he lamented that the offense was taking a worrisome dimension, Vanguard reports. Oyeyemi disclosed this while speaking at the first ‘ember month stakeholders forum’ organised by the FRSC. He disclosed that he had proposed to the Joint Tax Board that the traffic light violation fine should be increased from N4,000 to N50,000 to deter erring motorists.

“We have noticed the rising incidents of traffic light violations and so, we are going to increase the minimum fine to N50,000 from N4,000. Offenders would also undergo an emotional psychological test at the hospital to determine if you are fit to drive,” Oyeyemi said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Akin Alabi moved a motion mandating the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of Nigeria to build clinics and emergency health centres on major roads across Nigeria.

This, Honourable Alabi said, would aid the speedy treatment of accident victims on Nigerian roads. Alabi who represents Egbeda/Ona Ara Egbeda Federal Constituency in Oyo state moved the motion during plenary in the lower house on Tuesday, November 19.

“With the establishment of emergency health centres on major road networks across Nigeria, not only will accident victims be saved, but many other Nigerians who experience life-threatening health issues while on the highways,” Hon Alabi said.
