TRIBUTE TO FORMER SUPER EAGLES COACH, SHUAIBU AMODU 1958-2016
The Nigerian Football Federation, is definitely having a rough time now and it has nothing to do with its politics.
Within the space of 72 hours, the football body had lost 2 former Head Coaches, of the Super Eagles.
The first been Stephen Keshi and just a few hours ago, that of its Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu. Who was reported to have died after complaining of heart complications.
Shuaibu Amodu, was born in April, 1958 and died on the 10th of June 2016, at the age of 58.
Just like Stephen Keshi, Shuaibu Amodu also died, at his home in Benin City, Edo state.
Investigation, into his background by NaijaOnlineTV, revealed, Shuaibu Amodu, was a former football player, who played as a striker for Dumez FC and Niger Tornadoes FC all in the Nigerian local league, before he broke his leg, which led to his early end as a footballer.
Amodu, has managed a number of club sides, in Nigeria, such as BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors and Shooting Stars. He also managed Orlando Pirates, in South Africa.
Amodu, was appointed Technical Director, of Nigeria’s national teams in May 2013.
He was reappointed Nigeria manager in October 2014, replacing Stephen Keshi, which was his fifth spell as the Head Coach, of the Nigerian national team.
Amodu died on June 10, 2016 three days after the death of Stephen Keshi.
Former Captain of the Super Eagles and Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, wrote in his tribute to Amodu.
“I am speeches, with the passing away of Coach Shuaibu Amodu, just days after, Big boss Keshi. May their souls rest in perfect peace”.
Earlier, Sunday Oliseh had paid a tribute to Stephen Keshi, which reads thus:
” Tribute to our legendary, Stephen Keshi, RIP, what a horrible and sad day for his family, us, the Super Eagles, his friends, our country Nigeria and Africa”.
The Nigerian Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung wrote on the late Shuaibu Amodu.
“With heavy hearts, but with total submission to the will of God, I, on behalf of the federal ministry of youth and sports and the football family, announce the passing away, of another Eagles Coach and Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu, who died in his sleep recently.
This is an another blow to the football family. Just on Wednesday, the Big Boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, died after complaining of pains on the chest.
Coach Amodu, complained of same pains in the chest but never woke up.
Shuaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi qualified Nigeria for world cup twice.
We pray for the families of Amodu and Keshi at this time. This is one death too many. Lord grant them eternal rest”.
Shuaibu Amodu, was reported, to have signed condolence message to Stephen Keshi, which reads thus:
“The Big Boss, you lived a good life, ran a good race. Adieu my brother”. Amodu died, 72 hours later.
