Van Dijk agrees new massive 6-year contract with Liverpool
According to Mirror Van Dijk put pen to paper under new huge contract to commit his long-term future to Liverpool.
The new deal will tie him to the Reds until 2025 and the Dutch will reportedly receive £200,000 per week which is quite a considerable uplift on the £125,000-a-week basic he secured when moving from Southampton 20 months ago.
The new contract will be less dependant on the additional payments such as clean sheets and appearances in contrast to the previous one that included plenty of bonuses.
The previous contract was not due to expire until 2023 but Big Virg allegedly has Harry Maguire’s record-breaking transfer to Man United to thank for the new improved terms.
The outlet reports that despite the parties had already been discussing the new terms even before Maguire’s move was secured this United’s signing precisely gave Van Dijk’s representatives additional arguments in final stages of negotiations.
Van Dijk has recently claimed the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award and is deemed as Ballon d’Or favourite. Thus, Liverpool’s desire to reward the player as well as the 28-year-old’s expanded demands are quite natural.
